Beach House - 10 Mile Stereo
Beach House - Zebra
It's hard to give Baltimore duo Beach House any praises they haven't already heard after releasing their highly anticipated third album Teen Dream. The album sounds like Karen O got together with The xx but traded in the drum machine for the real thing--you couldn't ask for much more. Beach House's dreamy yet frequently sinister sound makes sense when you remember that they're from the same city that produced The Wire.
The indi-rock scene has loved Beach House ever since their single, "Apple Orchard" was released, and having produced two solid albums anything less than chilling wouldn't have been acceptable. But Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand stepped up making tracks like "10 Mile Stereo" and "Lover of Mine." The mixture of subtle Fender plucking and singing form Legrand that verges on tears all resulting in a wave of goose bumps and chills that rushes over the left side of my body every time I hear them. And I hope you're as excited as I am to see them live at Chicago's Metro April 2nd.
